Northwestern ready for next step after first bowl win since 1949

Northwestern ready for next step after first bowl win since 1949: "For more than six decades, Northwestern's first bowl appearance doubled as the program's lone bowl win. The Wildcats made their postseason debut with a 20-13 win over California in the 1949 Rose Bowl, capping an 8-2 season and, the school hoped, starting a Big Ten dynasty.

Not quite. NU wouldn't return to the postseason until 1996, when it made a dream run to the Rose Bowl before losing to USC 41-32 in Pasadena. That loss was been followed by eight others, including four bowl losses under coach Pat Fitzgerald (2008 Alamo Bowl, 2010 Outback Bowl, 2011 TicketCity Bowl, 2011 Meineke Car Care Bowl)."
