Radio and TV analysts studying the Bengals-Texans playoff game Saturday also struggle to comprehend the elements of Houston’s fall from AFC favorite to repeat wild-card weekend host.

But here’s the unkindest cut of all: Even if the Texans can prevail Saturday at Reliant Stadium, most AFC playoff speculation already has moved on to anticipate a Peyton Manning-Tom Brady reunion in a Broncos-Patriots championship showdown for a spot in Super Bowl XLVII.

Still, even under that scenario, Brady and Manning need foils, and it is in that light that much of the chatter about Bengals-Texans unfolds.

“These are two of better defenses in the league,” said Mike Mayock, who will call the game on NBC with Dan Hicks. “I don’t think Houston will be able to score 31 points (as it did in last season’s wild-card game against the Bengals). Manning: McCoy 'ready' to become head coach - chicagotribune.com: "ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is ready to become a head coach in the estimation of Peyton Manning.

The Broncos practiced Wednesday for the first time this week during their bye as the top seed in the AFC playoffs, and players in the locker room gave complete support to McCoy, who is scheduled to be interviewed by Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery this weekend. McCoy also has interviews lined up with the Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills. Rumors are more teams could be involved at some point, although all interviews must be completed by Sunday evening. Then, McCoy is off limits until the Broncos’ season ends."
